Cuscuta chinessis ( Dodder seed, also known as cuscuta seed or Tu Si Zi in mandarin) is an annual parasitic herb
It is a rootless, wholly parasitic plant  that  occurs most  commonly on heather ( Calluna vulgaris ), gorse  (Ulex
europaeus) and clover (Trifolium) species. Clover dodder is native to Europe, but occurs almost worldwide.It is
a member of the  Convolvulaceae  family, which includes Ipomoea and Convolvulus species, many of which are
commonly known as bindweed and morning glory. In China it  is produced in provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei
Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, and Jiangsu.

significantly increased cell proliferation and inhibited cell death in osteoblasts,

2)Alopecia, or hair loss, is an androgen-driven  psychologically  distressing condition,which affects millions of
men and women.In an article appearing in the September 2008 issue of the“Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology”
researchers evaluated Dodder Seed Extract reflexa for hair growth activity in test animals with alopecia.The authors  used
petroleum extract of C. reflexa on  albino mice with  testosterone-induced alopecia for 20 days. Its inhibitory
abilities were evaluated by  follicular  density and  microscopic observation  of skin sections. The study found
that the extract  exhibited  promising  hair growth  activity as reflected  in follicular  density and skin section
observation. Inhibition of enzymatic activity suggested that the extract reversed  androgen-induced alopecia
by inhibiting conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.

3)Male InfertilityThe March2006edition of the“Chinese Archives of Traditional Chinese Medicine”documented
the damage caused by  reactive oxygen species, ROS,to human  sperm  and the mechanism by which Cuscuta

damage caused by ROS.
